"Ave Mary A" is a song from P!nk's Funhouse. It was written by P!nk, Billy Mann, and Pete Wallace, and produced by Mann and Al Clay. Thematically, the song differs from the majority of the album, which was inspired by P!nk's temporary separation with husband Carey Hart, and instead focuses on coping with social issues.[1]
The song was released as a promotional single in Australia.
Background[]
"Ave Mary A" was written about issues in today's society and has been thematically compared to "Dear Mr. President" and "Stupid Girls," although presented in a much different musical style. P!nk described it as a song about "how fucked up the world's become," adding that it was a "fun song" and that she "couldn't wait to hear 10,000 people screaming it back to me."[2]
Release[]
"Ave Mary A" was released as a promotional single to Australian radio stations in 2010[3], where it received some airplay, prompting speculation that it would be released as a single. However, "Glitter in the Air" was released as the fifth and final single from Funhouse instead.
The song peaked at #10 on the Australian Airplay Chart, and ended up being the twenty-fourth most played song on Australian radio in 2010, though it never charted on the ARIA Singles Chart. It was later featured on the Autumn 2010 edition of compilation CD So Fresh. "Ave Mary A" serves as theme tune for the German RTL docu-soap Verdachtsfälle since its airing date in 2009.
Live performances[]
"Ave Mary A" was included in the setlist of the Funhouse Tour, although "It's All Your Fault" was performed in place of it during select dates. A live version of the song was included in the CD/DVD release of Funhouse Tour: Live in Australia.
