"Blow Me (One Last Kiss)"

"Are We All We Are" is the first track from P!nk's sixth studio album, The Truth About Love. It was written by P!nk, Butch Walker, John Hill, and Emile Haynie, and produced by the latter three. The song is three minutes and thirty-seven seconds long. P!nk stated that the song is very close to her, adding that it is based on her coming from a working class family.

The song's message of self-empowerment has received comparisons to P!nk's 2010 single "Raise Your Glass."[1]

Background and release[]

P!nk tweeted in February 2012, that she had begun work on her sixth studio album. Later, she tweeted a video of herself announcing the lead single for the album, "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)."

Following the success of "Blow Me" and the album's second single, "Try," there was speculation that "Are We All We Are" would be released as the album's third single. These rumors were fueled by pictures from P!nk's latest music video that had leaked online; however, these were later proven to be for the "Just Give Me a Reason" video.

On October 31, 2013, "Are We All We Are" was sent to Italian radio. The song served as the album's fifth and final international single and sixth single overall, after "Walk of Shame" was released to promote The Truth About Love Tour: Live from Melbourne.

Composition[]

"Are We All We Are" was written by P!nk, Butch Walker, John Hill and Emile Haynie, and produced by Walker, Hill and Haynie. The song starts with a 25 second introduction, before going into the first verse and chorus, at which point the bass begins to play. This repeats. In the bridge, drums are the main instrument used.

In an interview with Spotify, P!nk noted that "Are We All We Are" was inspired by American politics, stating, "I'm an American, so the politics are a little frustrating in this country," adding that her family's working class background also served as inspiration for the song.[2]

Music video[]

On October 28, 2013, a live performance video of "Are We All We Are" from The Truth About Love Tour: Live from Melbourne was released to promote the single.

Live performances[]

"Are We All We Are" was performed live in Los Angeles prior to the album's release, along with "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)," "Try," "Slut Like You," and "How Come You're Not Here." It was later included in the setlist for The Truth About Love Tour and its subsequent DVD release. During the tour, P!nk opened the song by playing drums alongside her drummer, Mark Schulman.

Lyrics[]

Cut to now holy wow
When did everything become such a hell of a mess?
Maybe now maybe now
Can somebody come and take this off my chest?

I know you think it's not your problem
I know you think that God will solve them
But if your shit is not together it'll never be
You and me plant the seed
Open up and let it be

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of
We've had our fill we've had enough we've had it up to here
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of rest of
Just sing it loud until the kids will sing it right back
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

Seven seconds seven seconds
That is all the time you got to make your point
My attention my attention's like
An infant trying to crawl around this joint

I know we're better than the masses
But we're all following our asses
And if our shit is not together it'll never be
You and me plant the seed
Open up and let it be

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of
We've had our fill we've had enough we've had it up to here
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of rest of
Just sing it loud until the kids will sing it right back
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

Four, that's how many years it took me to get thru the lesson
That I had to do it all on my own
Three, that's how many Hail Mary's they would pray for me
Thinkin' I was gonna end up all alone
Two for second chances that you've given me
Can it be lucky me lucky me now let's go
One is what we are
It's what we are
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of
We've had our fill we've had enough we've had it up to here
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of rest of
Just sing it loud until the kids will sing it right back
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of
We've had our fill we've had enough we've had it up to here
Are we all we are
Are we all we are

We are the people that you'll never get the best of
Not forget the rest of rest of
Cut to the future
Sing it loud and take the power back
Are we all we are
Are we all we are
